Embers, stories, and the old ways of keeping warm.
The story
Before electricity reached Gulmarg, winters were survived with kangris — woven fire pots carried under the pheran. On clear nights we light a bonfire in the courtyard, hand out kangris and blankets, and our father tells the stories his father told him, with kahwa and tsot going around until the fire burns low.
